Legal & Advocacy

The Center’s Legal & Advocacy Program, formerly known as the Center's Legal Initiatives Project (CLIP), is the legal outreach program of The Center. CLIP was founded in 1992 to oppose the anti-gay Colorado constitutional Amendment 2. The Center's Legal & Advocacy Program is the only legal project in Colorado dedicated solely to the equality and dignity of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people and those with HIV.

The legal program accomplishes its mission through The Center's Legal Helpline, civil rights litigation and mediation, media work, and public education. Our work is guided by two key principles: first, a focus on cases and issues that will have the most impact to move our civil rights agenda forward, and second, service to the most oppressed and disadvantaged in our communities.

While The Center's legal staff primarily serves GLBT people and those with HIV in Colorado, we believe that equality is indivisible, and democracy means a place at the table for all, not just for those in our own groups. Our civil rights cannot be secured without addressing other systemic inequalities, especially those based on race and class.
