Orgullo Latino ha Llegado!
Join us Saturday and Sunday for the PrideFest Latino Stage! This will be our third year with a Latino Stage that is packed with the best in colorful, cultural entertainment for the entire LGBT community.
The stage is located at the corner of Colfax and Bannock, and will have entertainment throughout the weekend. The stage is organized by the Latino community for the Latino community.
One of our special guests on Saturday will be mariachi artist Antonio Reyna of New Mexico, who is known as El Embajador de La Cancion Ranchera, or The Ambassador of Mariachi Music. Antonio started singing professionally at the age of 22. His debut appearance was at 1996 New Mexico State Fair, accompanied by "Mariachi Nuevo Tapatio" de Pedro Sepulveda. Since then he has performed all over his native New Mexico, as well as in Arizona, Texas, Colorado, and of course Mexico. His greatest influences in mariachi have been Lola Beltran, Miguel Aceves Mejia, and his father, who used to play guitar and stand-up bass for the local church choir.
Also special to the Latino Stage this year is popular Denver singer Pedro Palafox at 12:45 p.m. Sunday. His career began at 12 years old and his popularity has been growing ever since! In 2007 he recorded his first album titled Gema. At PrideFest, Pedro will be accompanied by a full mariachi band.
The Center would like to give special thanks for helping organize the Latino Stage to Unidos N Orgullo (UNO) - United in Pride - a new Latino LGBT organization that promotes the health and wellbeing of its community. By working in unity with other LGBT and non-LGBT organizations, UNO strives to create an environment where programs and services to the LGBT Latino community are accessible, culturally appropriate and relevant. For more information on UNO, please visit LocosDenver on Facebook – or email latinoslocos2010@yahoo.com.
A special nod also to Denver-based Closet Magazine, a publication targeted toward the Latino LGBT community, which also helped organize and fund the Latino Stage this year.
